Ultrasound

Sound-wave imaging used to evaluate organs, soft tissue, and blood flow without radiation.

Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to produce real-time images. It is commonly used to look at the heart, kidneys, thyroid, abdomen, and the arteries and veins of the arms and legs.

There is no radiation involved and most studies require little or no preparation. A technologist moves a small probe over the skin with gel while images are recorded for the physician to review.
